Altec Industries, Inc.: AT41ME Aerial Devices Recalled for Unit Tipping Risk

Summary

Altec Industries is recalling approximately 71 of its 2019-2022 AT41ME aerial devices due to a safety defect where the jib winch may operate even when the stabilizing outriggers are not deployed. A material handling interlocking valve can lose power, allowing the equipment to function without proper support. Altec will install a visual indicator system and provide a new inspection placard to owners free of charge to ensure the outriggers are correctly set before use.

Risk

If the jib winch is used to lift loads while the outriggers are up, the entire vehicle unit may become unstable and tip over. This creates a significant risk of serious injury to the operator and any bystanders near the equipment.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if you own a 2019-2022 Altec AT41ME aerial device by checking the vehicle identification and the manufacturer's nameplate.
  2. Contact Altec Industries customer service at 1-877-462-5832 to schedule a free repair; refer to Altec recall number CSN 3030.
  3. Ensure that Altec technicians install the visual indication system and provide the updated pre-operational inspection placard.
  4. Always verify that outriggers are properly set according to the manufacturer's instructions before operating the jib winch until the recall remedy is completed.
  5. For additional questions, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
