Intimidator is recalling about 16,000 Intimidator and Mahindra branded utility vehicles (UTVs) across several model series produced between 2013 and 2022. The throttle cable can freeze in cold temperatures, causing it to stick and potentially preventing the brakes from stopping the vehicle. Additionally, certain 2022 Intimidator GC1K models have a software defect that allows the vehicle to exceed 15 mph even when the seatbelt is not fastened. There have been 393 reports of frozen throttle cables, including four crashes that resulted in bruises. These vehicles were sold in various colors at authorized dealers nationwide from August 2013 through February 2022.
A stuck throttle cable can lead to a loss of speed control and brake failure, while malfunctioning speed-limiting software allows for unsafe speeds without seatbelts, both of which pose a significant crash hazard. Four crashes resulting in bruises have already been linked to the frozen throttle cable defect.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled utility vehicles and contact an Intimidator or Mahindra authorized dealer to schedule a free repair and to receive a software update/fix for the speed limiter.
