International Sprout Holding Inc. is recalling approximately 360 cases of SunGarden Mung Bean Sprouts because the product tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes. The recalled sprouts were sold in 5lb and 10lb sizes, packaged in clear plastic bags within white cardboard boxes. These products were distributed to a single customer in Florida and were available during the fall of 2021. Consumers who purchased these sprouts should return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Risk

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
