Summary

Chrysler is recalling approximately 4,907 vehicles, including 2022 Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks, as well as 3500, 4500, and 5500 Cab Chassis models equipped with Cummins 6.7L turbo diesel engines. These vehicles may have an Engine Control Module (ECM) containing a misaligned capacitor that can short-circuit and cause a sudden internal loss of communication. To resolve this issue, authorized dealers will replace the affected Engine Control Module at no cost to the vehicle owner.

Risk

A short-circuit in the engine control module can lead to a sudden loss of drive power while the vehicle is in motion. This unexpected loss of propulsion significantly increases the risk of a crash.

What You Should Do

  1. Check if your vehicle is a 2022 Ram 2500, 3500, 3500 Cab Chassis, 4500 Cab Chassis, or 5500 Cab Chassis equipped with a Cummins 6.7L turbo diesel engine.
  2. Locate your 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and contact any authorized Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, or RAM dealer to confirm if your specific vehicle is included in recall Z87.
  3. Schedule an appointment with an authorized dealer to have the Engine Control Module (ECM) replaced free of charge.
  4. If you have additional questions, contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403 and reference recall number Z87.
  5. For further assistance, call the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
