Blue Bird Body Company: 2019-2023 School Buses Recalled for Insufficient Roof Joint Strength

Summary

Blue Bird Body Company is recalling 16,708 school buses, including 2019-2023 Vision, All American Front Engine, and All American Rear Engine models. These vehicles may have been manufactured with roof joints that do not meet federal safety standards for strength. In the event of a crash, these roof panels could separate, which significantly reduces the structural integrity of the bus. Blue Bird will inspect all affected vehicles and install additional rivets at the roof joints free of charge to ensure they are properly secured.

Risk

If the exterior roof joints are too weak, the roof panels can pull apart during a collision, increasing the risk of serious injury to the passengers inside the bus.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your fleet includes 2019-2023 Blue Bird Vision, All American Front Engine, or All American Rear Engine school buses.
  2. Contact a Blue Bird dealer to schedule a free inspection of the exterior roof panel joints.
  3. If the inspection reveals insufficient strength, the dealer will install additional rivets to secure the roof panels at no cost to you.
  4. For further information or to ask questions about this recall, contact Blue Bird customer service at 1-478-822-2242.
