Summary

Dorel Juvenile Group is recalling approximately 14,510 Maxi-Cosi Coral XP rear-facing infant seats with model number IC313. The inner carrier component of the seat is not strong enough to properly restrain a child during a crash if used by itself without being attached to the outer carrier. Dorel is offering owners a full refund or a free replacement car seat to address this safety failure.

Risk

If the inner carrier is used alone, it may fail to hold the child securely during a collision, significantly increasing the risk of serious injury. The seat does not meet the safety requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 213 for child restraint systems.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify your product by checking the labels on your infant seat for the brand name 'Maxi-Cosi Coral XP' and model number 'IC313'.
  2. Immediately stop using the inner carrier of the Coral XP infant seat by itself for vehicle transport.
  3. If you must use the seat before receiving a remedy, only use the inner carrier when it is properly attached to the outer carrier and installed according to the instruction booklet using the vehicle's seat belt system (with or without the base).
  4. Contact Dorel Juvenile Group customer service at 1-877-657-9546 or email CoralXPRecall@djgusa.com to request a full refund or a free replacement car seat.
  5. For additional information or to report safety concerns, contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
