2025 Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator Recalled for Trailer Tail Light Failure

Summary

Ford Motor Company is recalling approximately 213,121 model year 2025 Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator vehicles. On these vehicles, a defect in the body control module can cause the trailer tail lights to fail to turn on when a trailer is being towed. Dealers will check or replace the affected control module free of charge to ensure the lights work properly.

Risk

If a trailer's tail lights do not illuminate, the vehicle and trailer are much harder for other drivers to see, especially at night or in low-visibility conditions. This significantly increases the risk of a rear-end collision.

What You Should Do

  1. This recall affects certain 2025 Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator vehicles equipped with a potentially faulty body control module.
  2. Check your vehicle's odometer to see if it has more or less than 9,000 miles, as this determines the specific repair process required by the dealer.
  3. Contact an authorized Ford or Lincoln dealer to schedule a free repair. For vehicles with less than 9,000 miles, dealers will replace the body control module; for vehicles with 9,000 miles or more, dealers will perform a functional check and replace the module only if necessary.
  4. You may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and reference manufacturer recall number 25C42.
  5. Call the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov/recalls regarding campaign number 25V543.
