Columbus Trading-Partners USA, Inc.: Cybex Infant Car Seats Recalled Due to Webbing Failure Risk

Summary

Columbus Trading-Partners USA is recalling approximately 31,080 Cybex rear-facing infant car seats, including Aton, Aton Q, Aton M, Aton 2, and Cloud Q models. The webbing on the front harness adjustment strap, which is used to tighten the shoulder straps around the child, can fray and lose its strength over time. This defect prevents the seat from meeting federal safety standards and may result in the harness failing to properly secure an infant during a crash. The company is providing a free replacement harness adjustment strap assembly to all affected owners.

Risk

The harness adjustment strap can fray and weaken, which may cause the restraint system to fail during a collision. If the strap lacks sufficient strength, the infant may not be properly secured, significantly increasing the risk of serious injury during a crash.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your infant car seat to determine if it is one of the affected Cybex models: Aton, Aton Q, Aton M, Aton 2, or Cloud Q.
  2. Inspect the front harness adjustment strap (the strap used to tighten the harness on the infant) for any signs of fraying or wear.
  3. Contact Columbus Trading-Partners (CTP) customer service at 1-877-242-5676 to confirm if your specific seat is included in the recall and to request your free replacement strap assembly.
  4. Once you receive the replacement kit, follow the included installation instructions to replace the front harness adjustment strap assembly immediately.
