Forest River, Inc.: Cedar Creek and Puma Fifth Wheels Recalled for Short Circuit and Fire Risk

Summary

Forest River, Inc. is recalling approximately 41,353 fifth wheel trailers including 2004-2024 Cedar Creek and 2006-2024 Puma models. The electrical wires for the trailer battery's overcurrent protection may have been incorrectly routed, which can allow the wires to be pulled out of the junction box. If these wires come loose, they can cause a short circuit and potentially start a fire. Forest River dealers will reroute the affected wires to the protected side of the mini-breaker at no cost to owners.

Risk

Incorrectly routed battery wires can pull loose from the junction box, creating an electrical short circuit that significantly increases the risk of a vehicle fire.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your fifth wheel trailer is affected by checking if it is a 2004-2024 Cedar Creek or a 2006-2024 Puma model.
  2. Locate your vehicle's VIN and contact the manufacturer or a local dealer to confirm your specific unit is part of recall 51-1786.
  3. Schedule a free service appointment with an authorized Forest River dealer to have the 7-way connector and battery wires rerouted to the protected side of the mini-breaker.
  4. If you own a Puma model, you may contact Puma customer service directly at 1-574-642-0588 for assistance.
  5. If you own a Cedar Creek model, you may contact Cedar Creek customer service at 260-593-4000.
