Summary

Ducati North America is recalling 2,906 of its 2016-2023 XDiavel S and XDiavel STD motorcycles due to a defect where the passenger backrest can break. This failure occurs if the backrest was incorrectly installed or is used improperly by a passenger. Owners should take their motorcycle to an authorized dealer to have the backrest installation inspected and the mounting screws tightened, and to have a new warning sticker applied to the component at no cost.

Risk

If the passenger backrest breaks while the motorcycle is in motion, the passenger may fall off the vehicle, significantly increasing the risk of serious injury.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your motorcycle's model and year to see if it is a 2016-2023 Ducati XDiavel S or XDiavel STD.
  2. Locate the passenger backrest component to identify if it appears loose or improperly secured, but do not attempt to repair it yourself.
  3. Contact an authorized Ducati dealer to schedule a free service appointment for an inspection and repair of the backrest mounting hardware.
  4. If you have questions, contact Ducati customer service at 1-888-391-5446 and reference recall number SRV-RCL-23-005.
  5. For additional information, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
