Lippert 8K Axles Recalled Due to Wheel Loss and Bearing Failure Risk

Summary

Lippert is recalling 101 of its 8K axles because the axle hubs were incorrectly assembled with grease seals instead of oil seals. This error causes oil to leak, which can lead to a loss of lubrication. Lippert will replace the affected axle hubs free of charge, and vehicle manufacturers who use these axles will be notified starting May 1, 2026.

Risk

A loss of lubrication can cause the axle bearings to fail and the wheels to detach from the vehicle, significantly increasing the risk of a crash. No injuries or incidents have been reported to date.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your vehicle's equipment documentation or contact your vehicle manufacturer to determine if your unit is equipped with Lippert 8K axles.
  2. Check the specific part numbers on your axle hubs. See the Affected Products section below for the full list of affected codes.
  3. If you identify an affected axle, contact Lippert customer service at 1-574-538-4514 to arrange for a free replacement of the axle hubs.
  4. Call the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov/recalls for additional information regarding this recall.
