Summary

Volkswagen Group of America is recalling approximately 12,100 Audi Q7 vehicles from the model years 2009 through 2015. These vehicles were manufactured with an incorrect Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) on the safety certification label, which could lead drivers to unintentionally overload the rear of the vehicle. To fix this, Audi dealers will provide and install a new overlay label with the correct weight information at no cost to the owner.

Risk

The incorrect label may cause owners to load the vehicle beyond its safe weight capacity. An overloaded vehicle can negatively impact handling and stability, significantly increasing the risk of a crash.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your vehicle's safety certification label, typically located on the driver-side door pillar, to see if it is for a 2009-2015 Audi Q7.
  2. Contact an authorized Audi dealer to schedule an appointment for a free repair. Dealers will install an overlay label containing the correct rear Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) on top of the existing label.
  3. If you have already received a notification letter from Audi (sent around April 24, 2023), follow the instructions provided to ensure your vehicle's label is corrected.
  4. Contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834 and reference recall number 50G5 if you have specific questions about your vehicle.
  5. For additional information, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
