Forest River, Inc.: Travel Trailers Recalled for Melted Wiring and Fire Risk

Summary

Forest River is recalling 24 of its 2023-2024 Sandstorm and Stealth travel trailers, along with 2024 Shockwave models. These vehicles were manufactured with an incorrect 10-gauge wire running from the 50AMP power inlet to the distribution panel's transfer switch. This undersized wire can overheat and melt during use, which may lead to a short circuit and a vehicle fire. To resolve this issue, dealers will replace the faulty wiring with a thicker 6-gauge wire at no cost to the owner.

Risk

The undersized electrical wiring cannot safely handle the intended power load, causing the insulation to melt and exposing live wires. This creates a high risk of an electrical short circuit that can ignite surrounding materials and start a fire within the trailer.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your travel trailer is affected: This recall includes 2023-2024 Sandstorm, 2023-2024 Stealth, and 2024 Shockwave models.
  2. Contact a Forest River dealer to schedule a free repair. Dealers will replace the incorrect 10-gauge wire with the required 6-gauge wire.
