Summary

Daimler Trucks North America is recalling 49 heavy-duty vehicles, including various models of Freightliner and Western Star trucks from years 2019 through 2023. These vehicles are equipped with tires that are not compatible with their 8.25-inch rims, which violates federal safety standards for wheels and rims. To fix this safety issue, authorized dealers will replace the incompatible tires with the correct ones free of charge.

Risk

Using tires that do not match the rim size can significantly reduce tire performance and stability. This mismatch increases the likelihood of tire failure while driving, which could lead to a loss of vehicle control and a crash.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your vehicle is one of the following affected models: 2020-2023 Freightliner 114SD, 2023 Freightliner 122SD, 2020 Western Star 4700, 2019-2022 Western Star 4900, 2019-2023 Freightliner Business Class M2, or 2021 Freightliner Cascadia.
  2. Check your records or contact a dealer to see if your truck is equipped with 8.25-inch rims and incompatible tires related to recall FL-962.
  3. Contact Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) customer service at 1-800-547-0712 to schedule a free tire replacement at an authorized dealership.
  4. For additional information, you may contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
