Braun Ambulances: Ambulances Recalled for Incompatible Node and Potential Brake Light Failure

Summary

Braun Ambulances is recalling approximately 32 of its 2023-2024 Chief XL Type I, Chief XL Type III, Express Plus Type I, Express Type III, and Liberty Type I emergency vehicles. An incompatible electronic node in these vehicles may cause critical safety systems—including brake lights, turn signals, backup alarms, and rearview cameras—to fail or operate intermittently. Braun dealers will replace the faulty node and update the vehicle software free of charge to resolve the issue.

Risk

Failure of the brake lights and turn signals reduces the ambulance's visibility to other drivers, which increases the likelihood of a crash during emergency or routine operation.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your fleet includes 2023-2024 Chief XL Type I, Chief XL Type III, Express Plus Type I, Express Type III, or Liberty Type I ambulances.
  2. Contact a Braun dealer to arrange for a free replacement of the high contact node and a software update.
  3. If you have questions, contact Braun customer service at 419-232-7020 and mention recall number 2024-2.
