Hino Motors Sales U.S.A., Inc.: Hino Commercial Vehicles Recalled for Inaccurate Fuel Gauge

Summary

Hino Motors is recalling approximately 8,025 vehicles from model years 2020-2024, including models NE7A, NE7B, NE8A, NH9A, NJ7A, NJ7B, NJ8A, NJ8J, NV7A, NV7B, and NV8A equipped with 70 or 90 gallon fuel tanks. The fuel sender float in these trucks can deform and detach, causing the fuel gauge to show an incorrect fuel level. Dealers will replace the fuel sender gauge free of charge to ensure the fuel level is reported accurately.

Risk

A faulty fuel gauge can lead a driver to believe they have more fuel than they actually do, causing the vehicle to unexpectedly run out of gas and stall while driving, which significantly increases the risk of a crash.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your vehicle's model and year to see if it is one of the affected 2020-2024 Hino models: NE7A, NE7B, NE8A, NH9A, NJ7A, NJ7B, NJ8A, NJ8J, NV7A, NV7B, or NV8A.
  2. Verify if your vehicle is equipped with a 70 or 90 gallon fuel tank, as these are the specific configurations affected by this recall.
  3. Contact an authorized Hino dealer to schedule a free replacement of the fuel sender gauge.
  4. If you have additional questions, contact Hino customer service at 1-248-699-9390 and reference recall number AAV70.
  5. For further assistance, you may contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
