Summary

Lippert is recalling approximately 13,997 Curt 7000 lb and 8000 lb axles used on various recreational vehicles. The U-bolts on these axles may not have been tightened correctly during manufacturing, which can cause the axle to shift out of its proper position. To fix this issue, dealers will inspect and tighten the U-bolts to the correct specifications at no cost to owners.

Risk

If an axle moves out of position while the vehicle is in motion, it can cause a sudden loss of vehicle control, significantly increasing the risk of a crash.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your recreational vehicle's documentation or the axle itself to determine if it is equipped with a Lippert Curt 7000 lb or 8000 lb axle.
  2. Contact Lippert customer service at 1-574-538-4514 to confirm if your specific axle is included in this recall (NHTSA Campaign Number 23E050).
  3. Schedule an appointment with an authorized dealer to have the axle U-bolts inspected and tightened to the correct torque free of charge.
  4. For additional information or to report safety concerns, contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
