Porsche Cars North America, Inc.: 2024 Boxster and Cayman Recalled for Improper Transmission Shift Cable Clip

Summary

Porsche Cars North America, Inc. is recalling 14 of its 2024 Boxster and Cayman vehicles. The safety clip that connects the shift cable to the transmission may have been installed incorrectly during manufacturing. This defect can prevent the transmission from locking into the 'Park' position when the driver moves the gear lever to 'Park,' which could allow the vehicle to move unexpectedly. Dealers will replace the faulty shift cable with a new one at no cost to the owner.

Risk

If the transmission does not properly lock in 'Park,' the vehicle may roll away unexpectedly while the driver is away or exiting the car. This unintended movement significantly increases the risk of a crash or injury to bystanders.

What You Should Do

  1. Confirm if your vehicle is one of the 14 affected 2024 Porsche Boxster or Cayman models by checking your VIN on the NHTSA website or contacting a Porsche dealer.
