Summary

Volkswagen Group of America is recalling approximately 1,047 Audi A8 and S8 vehicles from the 2022-2023 model years. During assembly, the front-passenger occupant protection flap on the air bag may have been folded incorrectly, meaning the vehicles do not meet federal safety standards. Dealers will replace the front-passenger air bag module entirely free of charge to ensure it functions as intended.

Risk

In the event of a crash, an incorrectly folded air bag can deploy with excessive force. This significantly increases the risk of injury to a child or small adult who is seated close to the dashboard, especially if they are unbelted.

What You Should Do

  1. Check if you own a 2022 or 2023 Audi A8 or S8 vehicle.
  2. Contact an authorized Audi dealer immediately to schedule a free appointment for the replacement of the front-passenger air bag module.
  3. When speaking with the dealer, mention Audi recall number 69ET for this specific issue.
  4. If you have further questions, you can reach Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834.
  5. For additional information, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
