PACCAR Incorporated: Kenworth and Peterbilt Trucks Recalled for Improperly Crimped Gear Shifters

Summary

PACCAR Incorporated is recalling approximately 70,509 Peterbilt and Kenworth trucks across various models from the 2021 to 2025 model years. The right-hand gear shifter stalk connectors in these vehicles may have been improperly crimped, which can cause a loss of communication between the shifter and the transmission. If this communication is lost, the vehicle could become disabled after coming to a stop, increasing the risk of a crash. Authorized dealers will inspect and replace the gear shifter assembly as necessary at no cost to the owner.

Risk

The faulty shifter connection can cause the transmission to stop receiving commands from the driver. This may result in the truck becoming stuck in place or disabled once it comes to a stop, which creates a significant hazard for a crash in traffic.
