Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC: 2023-2024 GLC and GLE Vehicles Recalled for Fuel and Oil Leaks

Summary

Mercedes-Benz USA is recalling 7 specific vehicles, including certain 2023 GLC300 and 2024 GLE350 and GLE450 models equipped with an M254 engine. These vehicles may have been manufactured with incorrect screws on the high-pressure fuel pump, which can prevent a proper seal from forming. This defect can cause fuel and oil to leak out of the engine, potentially causing a hazard on the road or a fire. Dealers will replace the high-pressure fuel pump on affected vehicles free of charge.

Risk

An inadequate seal can allow fuel and oil to leak onto the road surface, creating a slippery hazard for other motorists and increasing the crash risk. Additionally, if fuel or oil leaks onto hot engine components, it can ignite and cause a vehicle fire.

What You Should Do

  1. Confirm if your vehicle is one of the 7 affected units: this recall applies only to the 2023 GLC300, 2024 GLE350, and 2024 GLE450 models that feature the M254 engine.
  2. Identify your vehicle's 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and enter it into the NHTSA recall lookup tool at www.nhtsa.gov/recalls or contact a Mercedes-Benz dealer to verify if your specific car is included.
  3. Contact an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer to schedule a free appointment to have the high-pressure fuel pump replaced.
  4. If you have further questions, call Mercedes-Benz USA customer service at 1-800-367-6372 and mention recall number 2024010008.
  5. For additional information or safety concerns, you may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or go to www.nhtsa.gov.
