Summary

IKEA has recalled about 12,000 ODGER Swivel Chairs in the anthracite (gray) color because the chair's leg base can break. This defect poses a risk of fall and injury to consumers. IKEA has received four reports of the leg base breaking, including two incidents in the U.S. where individuals were injured as a result of a fall. The chairs were sold at IKEA stores and online at IKEA.com from October 2019 through December 2022 for approximately $160.

Risk

The plastic leg base of the swivel chair can unexpectedly snap or break during use, causing the chair to collapse and the occupant to fall. This has already resulted in at least two reported injuries from falls.

What You Should Do

  1. This recall involves IKEA ODGER Swivel Chairs in the anthracite (gray) color that have a production date stamp of 2221 or earlier.
  2. To determine if your chair is affected, look underneath the seat shell for the production name and date stamp molded into the material. The date stamp uses a YYWW format, where the first two digits represent the year and the last two represent the week (e.g., 2221 means the 21st week of 2022).
  3. Immediately stop using any recalled chair that falls within the specified date range to prevent potential injury.
  4. Return the affected chair to any IKEA store for a full refund, or contact IKEA to receive instructions on how to safely dispose of the chair to receive a full refund. A receipt or proof of purchase is not required for this return.
  5. Contact IKEA toll-free at 888-966-4532 from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit www.IKEA.com and click on "Product Recalls" at the bottom of the page for more information.
  6. For additional questions, call the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772.
