IKEA Recalls Children’s Nightlight Due to Electrical Shock Hazard

Summary

IKEA is recalling approximately 359,000 PATRULL nightlights because the protective plastic dome can detach from the base. This defect exposes internal electrical components, which can cause an electrical shock to anyone who touches them. IKEA has received one report of a child in Austria who suffered an electric shock and minor hand wounds when the cover detached as they were removing the light from an outlet. These lights were sold in white, orange, and pink at IKEA stores and online from August 2013 to July 2015. Consumers should stop using the lights and return them to IKEA for a full refund.

Risk

The dome-shaped colored cover can unexpectedly fall off or be pulled off, exposing live electrical parts. If a consumer, especially a child, touches these exposed components while the light is plugged in, they will receive an electrical shock.

What You Should Do

  1. Immediately stop using and unplug all PATRULL Nightlights from electrical outlets.
  2. Identify the affected product by looking for the IKEA logo on the back top of the light near the sensor. These 2 ¾ inch round lights have a dome-shaped plastic cover in white, orange, or pink attached to a white rectangular base.
  3. Check for specific article numbers on your product: 302.411.40 (Orange), 502.390.23 (White), or 702.411.38 (Pink).
  4. Return the recalled nightlight to any IKEA store for a full refund.
  5. Contact IKEA toll-free at 888-966-4532 anytime or visit www.ikea-usa.com and click on 'Product Recalls' at the top of the page for more information.
  6. Call the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772 for any additional questions regarding this recall.
