IKEA Expands Recall of Junior Beds that Pose Laceration Hazard

Summary

IKEA is expanding a previous recall to include approximately 3,500 additional KRITTER and SNIGLAR junior beds (bringing the total to about 25,500 units). These beds are being recalled because a metal rod that connects the guard rail to the bed frame can break during use. This defect creates a sharp edge that can cut a child; one child in the UK has already suffered a scratch to their arm. These beds were sold at IKEA stores and online between July 2005 and May 2013.

Risk

The metal rod used to attach the safety guard rail to the wooden bed frame can snap, exposing sharp broken metal. This poses a laceration hazard to children using the bed if they come into contact with the broken rod.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify your bed by checking the label on the headboard or the underside of the bed frame for the model name, date stamp, and supplier number.
  2. For the pine wood KRITTER bed (with animal cut-outs), check for date stamps 1114 through 1322, model number 600.904.70, and supplier number 19740.
  3. For the natural beech wood SNIGLAR bed (with white fiberboard inserts), check for date stamps 1049 through 1318, model number 500.871.66, and supplier number 18157.
  4. Stop using the affected KRITTER or SNIGLAR junior beds immediately if they match the specified date and model information.
  5. Contact IKEA toll-free at (888) 966-4532 anytime or visit www.ikea-usa.com and click the recall link at the top of the page to receive a free repair kit.
