Summary

Hydrolevel is recalling approximately 3,900 HydroStat Model 3000 boiler controllers used in residential Slant/Fin VSPH boilers. A malfunction in these controllers can cause the boiler to overheat rather than shutting down when it reaches its high temperature limit. There have been five reports of controllers failing to shut down the boilers as intended. The units were sold nationwide at Slant/Fin distributors and through residential boiler contractors between May 2012 and July 2018.

Risk

The controller can fail to shut off the boiler once it reaches the safe temperature limit, causing the system to overheat and posing a significant fire hazard to the home.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your boiler to see if it is a Slant/Fin model VSPH and uses the Hydrolevel HydroStat Model 3000 controller.
  2. Identify the controller by looking for the word 'HydroStat' and six small LED lights on the front of the black rectangular unit. Confirm the model number 'HydroStat Model 3000' is printed on the back of the controller.
  3. If you have an affected unit, immediately contact a boiler contractor to schedule a free repair.
  4. If you need help finding a qualified contractor to perform the repair, use the locator tool at http://www.slantfin.com/locator/.
  5. For more information, contact Slant/Fin at 800-873-4346 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or Hydrolevel at 800-654-0768 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit www.hydrolevel.com and click 'Contact Us'.
