Summary

Chrysler is recalling approximately 330 Mopar Hydraulic Control Unit/Anti-lock Brake system modules (HCU) with part number 68085397AB. These units, which were sold as replacement parts, can falsely detect pressure in the brake system, causing brake lights to stay on and allowing the vehicle to be started or shifted out of 'Park' without the driver pressing the brake pedal. Dealers will either repurchase the unused units or replace installed units free of charge.

Risk

The defect allows a vehicle to be shifted out of the 'Park' position without the brake pedal being depressed, which can lead to unintentional vehicle movement and increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, constant brake light illumination can confuse other drivers, further increasing collision risks.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your vehicle has had a replacement Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) or Anti-lock Brake system module installed with part number 68085397AB.
  2. If you have an uninstalled Mopar HCU module with part number 68085397AB, do not install it and contact a dealer for a repurchase.
  3. If the HCU module is already installed in your vehicle, contact an authorized Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) dealer to schedule a free replacement of the module.
  4. You may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403 and reference recall number 21A for more information.
