Summary

Huffy is recalling about 460 model year 2014 TR 745 and TR-S 740 bicycles with 27.5-inch wheels. The front wheel’s quick release lever can be adjusted incorrectly or left open, allowing it to interfere with the front disc brake assembly and cause the wheel to stop suddenly or detach. The recalled TR 745 has a green frame, while the TR-S 740 has a white frame. These bicycles were sold at Walmart.com, Sears Puerto Rico, and Cost U Less from September 2014 through May 2015. Consumers should stop using the bicycles immediately to receive a free replacement quick release lever.

Risk

If the quick release lever on the front wheel hub is left open or becomes loose, it can get caught in the front disc brake assembly. This can cause the front wheel to come to a sudden stop or completely separate from the bicycle frame while in use, leading to a crash and potential injury to the rider.

What You Should Do

  1. Stop using the recalled bicycles immediately.
  2. Check the downtube of the bike frame for the 'Huffy' brand name and look at the rear portion of the frame for model names TR 745 or TR-S 740.
  3. Locate the model number on the bottom of the frame near the pedals: the green TR 745 is model 26504M, and the white TR-S 740 is model 26604M.
  4. Inspect the front wheel quick release lever; if there is a green dot on the inside of the lever, your bicycle is NOT included in this recall.
  5. Contact Huffy toll-free at 888-366-3828 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or email Service@Huffy.com to receive a free replacement quick release lever for the front wheel.
  6. Visit www.huffybikes.com and click on 'Recalls' at the bottom of the page for more information and to request your replacement part.
  7. For additional questions, contact the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772.
