Summary

Bowlus Road Chief LLC is recalling approximately 57 trailers from the 2022-2025 model years, including certain Endless Highways, Volterra, Terra Firma, and Rivet models equipped with an elongated hitch. The owner's manual for these trailers is missing critical instructions for retightening the hitch bolts as part of the regular maintenance schedule. Bowlus will provide a supplement to the owner's manual, and dealers will inspect, replace, and tighten the hitch bolts as necessary for free.

Risk

Without regular maintenance and tightening, the hitch bolts can loosen over time. This can cause the top and bottom of the hitch to separate, creating a significant road hazard and increasing the risk of a crash while towing.

What You Should Do

  1. This recall affects 2022-2023 and 2025 Endless Highways, 2024-2025 Volterra, 2024 Terra Firma, and 2025 Rivet trailers specifically equipped with an elongated hitch.
  2. Contact Bowlus customer service by emailing service@bowlus.com to confirm if your specific trailer is included in this recall.
  3. Schedule an appointment with an authorized Bowlus dealer to have your hitch bolts inspected, replaced if necessary, and tightened to the correct specifications at no cost to you.
  4. Obtain the owner's manual supplement from Bowlus or your dealer and keep it with your vehicle's documentation to ensure you have the correct maintenance instructions for future hitch bolt checks.
  5. For additional information, contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov/recalls.
