Summary

New Flyer of America, Inc. is recalling 655 transit buses, including model year 2019 and 2021-2025 XE35, and model year 2021-2025 XE40 and XE60 buses. The high-voltage battery system in these vehicles can experience a short circuit within the battery module when the bus is charged to near or full capacity. New Flyer will replace the batteries for free through a phased campaign starting in March 2026.

Risk

A short circuit in the high-voltage battery significantly increases the risk of a vehicle fire. Because of this danger, owners must park their vehicles outdoors and away from structures to prevent fire from spreading to buildings.

  3. Do not charge the vehicle's battery above 75% capacity until the recall repair has been completed.
  4. Contact New Flyer customer service at 1-800-241-2947 to coordinate the free replacement of the high-voltage batteries.
  5. Please note that the repair process is being conducted in seven phases between March 2026 and September 2027; you will receive a second notification letter when the remedy is available for your specific vehicle.
  6. Call the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov for additional recall information.
