Summary

Ford Motor Company is recalling approximately 20,484 vehicles, specifically 2020-2024 Ford Escape and 2021-2024 Lincoln Corsair models, due to a manufacturing defect in the high-voltage battery cells. This defect can lead to an internal short circuit, which may cause the battery to fail while driving or even catch fire. Owners will receive a free software update for the battery energy control module and, if necessary, a full replacement of the high-voltage battery pack.

Risk

A short circuit within the battery cells can result in a sudden loss of drive power, which increases the risk of a crash, or an internal battery fire.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your vehicle is affected by checking if you own a 2020-2024 Ford Escape or a 2021-2024 Lincoln Corsair.
  2. Stop charging your vehicle immediately and do not plug it into a charger until the recall repair has been completed.
  3. Contact an authorized Ford or Lincoln dealer to schedule a free appointment to have the battery energy control module (BECM) software updated and the high-voltage battery pack inspected and replaced if necessary.
  4. If you have additional questions, contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and reference recall number 24S79.
  5. Contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov for further information.
