Summary

New Flyer of America, Inc. is recalling approximately 1,170 transit buses, including XE and XHE series models manufactured between 2013 and 2025. A manufacturing defect involving an inadequate weld on the high voltage battery busbar, combined with incorrect software, can cause the battery module to overheat. New Flyer will inspect the batteries and replace affected modules and update the Battery Management System (BMS) software for all owners at no cost.

What You Should Do

  1. This recall involves certain 2013 and 2017-2025 XE40, 2019-2025 XE60, 2019-2025 XE35, 2023-2025 XHE40, and 2024-2025 XHE60 New Flyer transit buses.
  2. Contact New Flyer's customer service at 1-800-241-2947 to schedule a free inspection and software update.
  3. Dealers will inspect the battery modules, replace any that are found to be defective, and update the Battery Management System software to prevent future overheating.
