Summary

Polestar Automotive USA, Inc. is recalling 66 of its 2020-2021 Polestar 1 vehicles due to a defect in the high-voltage battery cells. These cells can cause the battery to overheat particularly when the vehicle is fully charged. To resolve this issue, Polestar dealers will replace the entire high-voltage battery pack and restore the electric driving range at no cost to the owner.

Risk

The defective high-voltage battery cells may overheat when the battery reaches a full charge, which significantly increases the risk of a vehicle fire.

What You Should Do

  1. Confirm if your vehicle is affected by checking your VIN against this recall for the 2020-2021 Polestar 1. This recall (23V-361) replaces a previous interim repair (22V-926), so you must verify your status even if you previously received service.
  2. Contact Polestar customer service at 1-800-806-2504 to schedule a free appointment for the battery pack replacement. Refer to Polestar's internal recall number R102316 when calling.
  3. If you previously had the interim repair for recall 22V-926 (R10202) performed, you are still required to have this new remedy for 23V-361 (R10216) completed.
  4. For additional information, you can contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
