Summary

General Motors is recalling 72 Chevrolet Bolt EV (model years 2020-2022) and Chevrolet Bolt EUV (model year 2022) vehicles that previously underwent a separate battery recall. The advanced diagnostic software meant to detect defective battery modules may have been incorrectly installed, preventing it from identifying battery issues that can lead to a fire. Dealers will reinstall the correct diagnostic software free of charge to ensure the safety of the high voltage battery system.

Risk

The incorrectly installed software may fail to detect a defective battery module, which can result in a high-voltage battery fire. Owners should park their vehicles outdoors and away from structures until the repair is completed to prevent property damage or injury from a potential fire.

What You Should Do

  1. Park this vehicle outdoors, away from structures — do NOT park in a garage due to fire risk.
  2. Identify if your vehicle is affected by checking your VIN for 2020-2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV or 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV models that were previously serviced under recall 21V-650.
  3. Set your vehicle's 'Target Charge Level' feature to limit the maximum battery charge to 90%.
  4. Charge your vehicle more frequently and avoid letting the battery range drop below 70 miles of remaining range.
  5. Do not charge the vehicle indoors overnight.
  6. Contact the Bolt EV Concierge Team at 1-833-382-4389 or visit an authorized Chevrolet dealer to have the advanced diagnostic software reinstalled free of charge (GM recall numbers N242443000 and N242443002).
  7. Contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov for more information.
