Summary

Lightning eMotors Inc. is recalling approximately 148 vehicles, including 2020 FE4-86 and FT3-43, 2019-2021 FE4-129, and 2019-2022 FT3-86 models. The high-voltage battery packs in these vehicles may have defective structural welds that can lead to an internal radiator leak and subsequent battery failure. Lightning eMotors will replace the affected battery packs entirely free of charge.

Risk

A battery failure can lead to a sudden loss of drive power while moving, which increases the risk of a crash. Additionally, the defect can trigger an internal failure that increases the risk of a vehicle fire.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your vehicle's model and year to see if it is one of the affected 2020 FE4-86, 2020 FT3-43, 2019-2021 FE4-129, or 2019-2022 FT3-86 vehicles.
  2. Contact Lightning eMotors customer service at 1-970-744-7241 to schedule a free replacement of your vehicle's high-voltage battery pack.
  3. Refer to Lightning's internal recall number 2023-001 when speaking with the service representative.
