Summary

Porsche Cars North America, Inc. is recalling approximately 27,527 model year 2021-2024 Porsche Taycan vehicles because the high-voltage battery can experience a short circuit within the battery module. A short circuit in a high-voltage battery can cause the battery to overheat and significantly increases the risk of a vehicle fire. Porsche will provide a software diagnostic fix in early 2025, but in the meantime, some owners are being instructed to limit their battery charge to 80% to reduce safety risks.

Risk

A short circuit within the high-voltage battery module can lead to thermal runaway, creating a high risk of a vehicle fire that could cause injury or property damage.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your vehicle is affected by checking your VIN on the NHTSA website or contacting a Porsche dealer regarding a 2021-2024 Taycan.
  2. If Porsche contacts you via online vehicle monitoring or after a dealer diagnostic test, strictly follow the instruction to only charge your vehicle to a maximum of 80% capacity until the battery module is replaced.
  3. Schedule a service appointment with an authorized Porsche dealer to have the vehicle inspected; dealers will perform diagnostic tests and replace affected battery modules free of charge.
  4. Monitor for an advanced diagnostic software update which Porsche anticipates will be the final remedy available in the first quarter of 2025.
  5. Contact Porsche customer service at 1-800-767-7243 and reference recall numbers ARB6 or ARB7 for more information.
  6. Contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or go to www.nhtsa.gov for additional assistance.
