Summary

Volkswagen Group of America is recalling approximately 6,499 Audi e-tron GT and RS e-tron GT electric vehicles from the 2022-2024 model years due to a defect where the high-voltage battery modules may short circuit. This internal electrical failure can lead to a vehicle fire, posing a significant safety risk to occupants and property. Owners will receive a free software update to monitor battery health, and those with potentially failing modules will be instructed on temporary charging limits until a free replacement can be installed.

Risk

An internal short circuit within the high-voltage battery module can generate excessive heat and lead to a vehicle fire, even while the vehicle is parked or charging.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your vehicle is affected by checking your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) for Audi recall numbers 931A or 931B, or by contacting Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834.
  2. If your vehicle is identified as part of recall 931A (online data available), your battery will be monitored remotely; if a fault is detected, you will be contacted and instructed to limit your charging to 80% capacity until the module is replaced.
  3. If your vehicle is identified as part of recall 931B (online data not available), visit an authorized Audi dealer for a manual diagnostic inspection and a potential battery module replacement.
  4. For all affected vehicles, dealers will install advanced diagnostic software as the final permanent remedy free of charge once it becomes available.
  5. If you were previously told your vehicle was repaired under recalls 24V-228 or 24V-229, you must still return to the dealer for this new repair as this recall replaces the previous ones.
  6. For additional information, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
