Summary

Volkswagen Group of America is recalling 33 Audi RS E-Tron GT and E-Tron GT vehicles from the 2022-2023 model years. The high-voltage battery in these electric vehicles may experience a short circuit within the battery modules. This defect can lead to a fire, posing a significant safety risk to occupants and nearby property. To mitigate the danger until a permanent repair is available, owners are instructed to limit their battery charging to 80% capacity. Dealers will replace the affected battery modules for free.

Risk

A short circuit within the high-voltage battery modules can generate excessive heat and lead to a vehicle fire, even while the car is parked or charging.

What You Should Do

  1. Immediately adjust your vehicle's charging settings to a maximum of 80% battery capacity to reduce the risk of a battery short circuit.
  2. Verify if your vehicle is affected by checking your 17-character Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) at www.nhtsa.gov/recalls or by contacting an Audi dealer.
  3. Contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834 to schedule a free replacement of the high-voltage battery modules; refer to Volkswagen recall number 93VM.
  4. If you have additional questions, contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
