Summary

Hearth & Home Technologies is recalling about 2,500 Heat-N-Glo and Heatilator Corner Unit Series indoor gas fireplaces. The back of the fireplace box can bow out during use, creating a fire hazard. There have been two reports of the units charring or causing minor property damage, though no injuries have been reported. These units were sold at fireplace stores nationwide from March 2008 through November 2014.

Risk

The back of the firebox can warp or bow outward, which may lead to excessive heat transfer to surrounding structures, posing a fire risk. Two incidents of charring and property damage have already been reported.

What You Should Do

  1. Immediately stop using the gas fireplace if you own a Heat-N-Glo or Heatilator Corner Unit Series fireplace.
  2. Check the unit rating plate located near the controls or look in your instruction manual for the following affected model numbers: LCOR-36TRB-IPI, RCOR-36TRB-IPI, GDCL4136I, or GDCR4136I.
  3. Contact the fireplace store where you purchased the unit to schedule a free inspection and the installation of a correction kit. While dealers are attempting to contact known purchasers, you should reach out directly if you have not been contacted.
  4. For more information, contact Hearth & Home Technologies at (800) 883-6690 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT Monday through Friday or visit www.hearthnhome.com and click on 'Notices'.
  5. Call the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772 if you have additional questions regarding this recall.
