Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing: Lexus and Toyota Head Restraints Recalled for Inadvertent Removal Risk

Summary

Toyota is recalling approximately 11,418 vehicles, including the 2024 Lexus RX 350, RX 350h, and 2024-2025 Lexus NX 250, NX 350, and NX 350h models. The head restraints on the driver and front passenger seats may be able to be removed without pressing the lock release button, which fails to meet federal safety standards. If you own one of these vehicles, your local dealer will replace the front seat head rest assemblies for free to ensure they remain securely locked in place.

Risk

If a head restraint is unintentionally removed and not properly reinstalled, it cannot provide the necessary support to the head and neck during a collision. This significantly increases the risk of injury for the driver or front passenger during a rear-end crash.

What You Should Do

  1. Confirm your vehicle is part of this recall by checking if you own a 2024 Lexus RX 350, 2024 Lexus RX 350h, 2024-2025 Lexus NX 250, 2024-2025 Lexus NX 350, or 2024-2025 Lexus NX 350h.
  2. Contact a Lexus or Toyota dealer to schedule a free appointment to have the driver and front passenger seat head rest assemblies replaced.
  3. If you have additional questions, contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331 and mention recall numbers 24LB06 or 24LA06.
  4. For further assistance or to check your VIN, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
