Summary

Hauck Fun For Kids is recalling approximately 26,300 Nerf Battle Racer go-karts because the steering wheel can detach, break, or crack while in use. There have been 639 reports of steering wheel failures, including two incidents that resulted in injuries to a child's face and chest. The four-wheel pedal-powered go-karts were sold at major retailers like Target, Walmart, and Toys R Us, as well as online at Amazon.com, between January 2016 and March 2017. Consumers should immediately stop using the go-kart and contact the manufacturer for a free replacement steering wheel.

Risk

The steering wheel can suddenly break or come off during operation, causing a child to lose control and collide with objects or fall. Broken pieces of the steering wheel can also cause deep cuts or lacerations, as evidenced by a report of a child requiring stitches to their face.

What You Should Do

  1. Immediately stop using the Hauck Nerf Battle Racer go-karts to prevent potential crashes or injuries.
  2. Check the white sticker located on the underside of the black seat to see if your go-kart is part of this recall. Look for model number T91869 and a manufacture date between 01/2016 and 03/2017.
  3. Identify your product by looking for the 'Nerf' logo on each side and etched into the seat, as well as the distinctive black and orange wheels.
  4. Contact Hauck toll-free at 877-428-2545 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit www.hauck-toys.com and click on 'Product Recall' at the bottom of the page to request a free replacement steering wheel.
