Summary

Goal Zero has recalled about 118 Street Charge solar-powered charging stations because a weld connecting the top and bottom sections can fail. If this weld breaks, the top post can fall, posing a serious impact hazard to people nearby. The firm has already received three reports of the top post detaching, though no injuries have been reported yet. These tall, tree-shaped stations were sold to colleges, stadiums, and other public facilities nationwide between October 2014 and February 2017. Goal Zero is providing free inspections and repairs for all affected units.

Risk

The weld connecting the top and bottom posts can fail, causing the heavy top post to fall onto consumers using the station or those walking nearby. Three incidents of the post detaching have already been reported.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your facility has the 'Street Charge' solar-powered charging station, which is approximately 150 inches tall (12.5 feet) and features aluminum panels on three sides of the top post with 'Street Charge' etched into the panels.
  2. Immediately stop using the recalled charging stations and cordoning off the area around them to prevent access.
  3. Contact Goal Zero toll-free at 877-897-3193 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. MT Monday through Friday, or online at www.goalzero.com and click on 'Product Notifications' to schedule a free inspection and repair of the weld connections.
  4. For additional questions, contact the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772.
