Summary

Approximately 5,000 Autumn Run brand girls Gemma II style boots are being recalled because an exposed staple in the sole poses a laceration and puncture hazard. One consumer has already reported being punctured by a staple. The recalled boots are brown with a paisley-print fabric sash and a leather beaded strap, sold in girls sizes 5 to 11. They were sold exclusively at Academy Sports + Outdoors stores and online from July 2012 through October 2012 for about $23. Consumers can return the boots for a full refund.

Risk

An exposed metal staple in the sole of the boot can pierce through the material and puncture or cut a child's foot. Renaissance Imports has received one report of a consumer who was punctured by an exposed staple in the sole.

What You Should Do

  1. Immediately take the Autumn Run Gemma II style boots away from children and stop using them.
  2. Check the inner side of the boot's collar for a tag containing SKU number 0529-02613-1050 to see if your boots are included in the recall.
  3. Inspect the inside label for a stamp that says 'INSPECTED' on the reverse side; boots with this stamp have already been checked for staples and are safe to use.
  4. If the boots do not have the 'INSPECTED' stamp, check the soles for exposed staples. You can find detailed inspection instructions online at www.renimp.com.
  5. Return the recalled boots to any Academy Sports + Outdoors store location for a full refund.
  6. For more information, contact Renaissance Imports toll-free at (877) 632-2021 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, or visit www.renimp.com and click on 'Product Recall Info'.
