Summary

Gillig, LLC is recalling 424 of its 2023-2026 Low Floor transit buses because a high voltage cable connecting the inverter to the drive unit may overheat. This cable contains a splice connection that cannot handle the required electrical current. To address this safety risk, Gillig will first provide an interim software update and will ultimately replace the affected high voltage cables free of charge.

Risk

The spliced cable connection reduces the electrical capacity, which can cause the cable to overheat during operation. This overheating significantly increases the risk of a vehicle fire.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your fleet includes 2023-2026 Gillig Low Floor transit buses.
  2. Contact Gillig customer service at 1-800-735-1500 to schedule the interim software reprogramming and the subsequent final cable replacement.
  3. Ensure both the interim software fix and the final high voltage cable replacement are performed at no cost to you.
  4. Monitor your mail for official notification letters; interim letters were sent April 14, 2026, and a second notice will follow when the final cable replacement parts are available.
  5. Call the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov/recalls for more information.
