Gibbs Sports Amphibians Recalls Quadski Amphibious Vehicles Due to Injury Risk

Summary

Gibbs Sports Amphibians has recalled about 320 Quadski and Quadski XL amphibious vehicles because the handlebar can fail while in use. If the handlebar breaks, the driver could lose control of the steering and braking systems, leading to a crash. While no consumer incidents have been reported, three breakages occurred during testing, including one neck injury to a test operator. These red, high-speed vehicles were sold at authorized dealers nationwide from January 2012 through October 2014.

Risk

The handlebar can break during operation, which immediately causes the operator to lose the ability to steer or brake the vehicle. This failure poses a significant risk of collision and physical injury to the driver and any passenger.

What You Should Do

  1. Locate the Hull Identification Number (HIN) on your vehicle, which is printed on a metal plate on the right rear corner of the machine.
  2. Identify if your vehicle is affected: Quadski (one-seater) models with HINs ranging from US-GSA601J213 through US-GSAJ1048C414, or Quadski XL (two-seater) models with HINs ranging from US-GSAJ5001J213 through US-GSAM5203H415.
  3. Check the back panel or the side of the vehicle for the 'Gibbs', 'Quadski', or 'Quadski XL' brand and model names.
  4. Immediately stop using any recalled vehicle and contact an authorized Gibbs Sports Amphibians dealer to schedule a free repair.
  5. Contact Gibbs Sports Amphibians toll-free at 877-230-0888 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit www.quadski.com and click on the 'Recall' link at the bottom of the page for more information.
  6. For additional questions, you can contact the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772.
