Winnebago Towable: 2024 Access Travel Trailers Recalled for Incorrect GFCI Outlet Wiring

Summary

Winnebago Towable is recalling approximately 94 of its 2024 Access travel trailers due to a serious electrical wiring error. The electrical circuits for the Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) outlets may have been installed incorrectly, which prevents the safety shut-off feature from working. Owners of these trailers should contact a Winnebago dealer to have the circuitry rewired with a new upstream GFCI outlet free of charge.

Risk

If a GFCI outlet is not properly protected by the safety circuit, it will not shut off power during an electrical fault. This significantly increases the risk of a severe electrical shock or injury to anyone using the outlet.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your vehicle is affected by checking if you own a 2024 Winnebago Access travel trailer.
  2. Contact Winnebago customer service at 1-574-825-5280 (extension 5220) to confirm your vehicle is part of recall number CAM0000036.
  3. Schedule an appointment with an authorized Winnebago dealer to have the GFCI circuitry rewired; dealers will add a GFCI outlet upstream of the unprotected outlets at no cost to you.
  4. For additional information or to check your VIN, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
