Summary

Generac Power Systems has recalled approximately 149,400 portable generators because fuel can leak from the carburetor when the unit is first filled with gasoline. This defect creates a high risk of fire and serious burn injuries, with 114 reports of fuel leaks received so far. The recall includes various orange and black models, such as the GP3600, GP6500, and GP8000E, sold at Home Depot, Lowe's, and other hardware stores nationwide between May 2025 and February 2026. Consumers should immediately stop using these units and contact a dealer for a free repair.

Risk

Fuel can leak from the carburetor during the initial fueling process, posing a serious fire or burn hazard to the user or bystanders. While no injuries have been reported, the firm has documented over 100 incidents of fuel leakage.

What You Should Do

  1. Check the side panel of your generator for the 'Generac' brand and the unit type (such as GP3600 or GP6500).
  2. Locate the model and serial number on the label attached to the side of the unit to confirm if your generator is affected. See the Affected Products section below for the full list of affected codes.
  3. If your generator is included in the recall and has never been fueled, or if it leaked fuel when you first filled it, immediately stop using it.
  4. Contact a local Generac dealer to arrange for a free repair at the dealer's location. You can find a dealer by calling Generac at 800-396-9951 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT Monday through Friday.
  5. Visit https://www.generac.com/about/recalls/GP-Carburetor to verify your model and serial number or click on 'Important Recall Information' at www.generac.com for more details.
  6. If your generator was previously filled with enough gasoline to move the fuel gauge off 'E' and did not leak, you may continue to use it.
  7. Call the CPSC at 800-638-2772 for additional questions regarding this recall.
