Summary

GE Lighting is recalling approximately 46,000 packages (92,000 individual units) of Cool White Universal T8/T12 LED tube lamps sold in two-packs. These lamps, often used in workshops and garages, have a defect where pins on one end can become energized during installation or removal. No injuries have been reported, but consumers should immediately stop using these lamps to prevent injury. Affected products were sold exclusively at Lowe's stores and online at Lowes.com between November 2017 and April 2018 for about $15.

Risk

The metal pins on one end of the tube can carry a live electrical current while the other end is being installed or removed from a fixture. This creates a direct risk of high-voltage electric shock or electrocution if a consumer touches the energized pins.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify your product by checking the label near the base of the LED tube for the GE logo, the product code 31243, and model number LED13T8U840/2PKL.
  2. Verify the UPC code on the original packaging, if available, which is 043168312431.
  3. Turn the light switch to the 'OFF' position before attempting to touch or remove the lamps.
  4. Once the power is off, safely remove the affected LED tube lamps from their fixtures.
  5. Contact GE Lighting at 800-338-4999 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or email lightingconcerns@ge.com to receive instructions on how to receive a refund in the form of a $17 gift card.
  6. You may also visit www.gelighting.com and click on 'Product Safety Information' for additional details regarding the refund process.
  7. For additional questions, contact the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772.
