GE, Café, Haier and Other Ranges Recalled for Tip-Over Hazard

Summary

GE Appliances has recalled approximately 132,000 free-standing and slide-in electric and gas ranges sold under the GE, GE Profile, Café, Haier, Hotpoint, Crosley, and Conservator brands. The ranges can tip over if a heavy object is placed on the open oven door while the anti-tip bracket is not properly secured to the wall or floor. No injuries have been reported, but this defect creates a serious risk of burns from hot food or liquids spilling from cookware. The affected units were sold at Lowe's, Home Depot, Best Buy, and other home improvement stores nationwide between May 2021 and July 2021. GE Appliances is providing free in-home inspections and repairs for the anti-tip brackets.

Risk

The range can tip forward if the anti-tip-over bracket is not securely installed in the wall or floor and weight is applied to the open oven door. This movement can cause hot food or liquids in cookware to spill onto consumers, posing a significant risk of severe burn injuries.

What You Should Do

  1. This recall involves 30-inch, 24-inch, and 20-inch free-standing and slide-in electric and gas ranges sold under the brand names GE, GE Profile, Café, Haier, Hotpoint, Crosley, and Conservator.
  2. Identify if your range is affected by checking the brand name, model number prefix, and serial number on the label visible on the unit. Affected serial numbers start with either 'HS' or 'LS' and end with 'P'. See the Affected Products section below for the full list of affected codes.
  3. If your unit is part of the recall, you may continue to use the range but are cautioned not to place any objects on the open oven door until the anti-tip bracket has been inspected and repaired.
  4. Contact GE Appliances at 877-247-9770 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or online at www.geappliances.com/ge/recall to schedule a free in-home service call to inspect the bracket and ensure it is securely installed.
  5. Do not return the recalled ranges to the place of purchase, as retailers are not equipped to take the units back.
  6. Call the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772 if you have additional questions regarding this safety recall.

Your Remedy Options

🔧Free Repair

Consumers should contact GE Appliances to determine if their unit is part of the recall and to schedule a free in-home service call to inspect the recalled range's anti-tip bracket and ensure it is securely installed in the floor or wall. Consumers can continue to use the recalled ranges but are cautioned not to place any objects on the open oven door until the range's anti-tip bracket has been inspected and repaired, if necessary. Consumers should not return the recalled ranges to the place of purchase, as retailers are not prepared to take the units back. The firm is contacting all known purchasers directly.
