Summary

GE Appliances is recalling about 11,000 JP3030 model knob-controlled electric radiant cooktops manufactured between July and September 2022. The cooktop's burners can fail to turn off or regulate temperature properly, even when the control knob is set to the "off" position, because of misaligned or fractured knob components. GE has received 83 reports of this malfunction occurring, though no injuries have been reported to date. These units have black or white glass surfaces with four radiant burners and four control knobs located on the right side. Consumers are advised to contact GE for a free replacement knob assembly.

Risk

The burners can stay powered on and hot after use even after being turned to the "off" position, posing a significant burn hazard. While the main "On" indicator light may turn off, the "Hot Cooktop" light for the affected burner will remain lit until power is disconnected at the circuit breaker.

What You Should Do

  1. This recall involves GE-branded JP3030 knob-controlled electric radiant cooktops manufactured from July 2022 through September 2022. The units have four burners and control knobs on the right side.
  2. Check the model number, UPC code, and serial number printed on the permanent label located on the bottom of the cooktop, near the front left burner. Affected models include JP3030DJ4BB, JP3030SJ4SS, and JP3030TJ4WW. See the Affected Products section below for the full list of affected codes.
  3. When the cooktop is not in use, turn the unit off at the circuit breaker to ensure the burners do not remain powered on.
  4. Do not leave flammable materials or empty cookware on or near the cooktop surface at any time.
  5. Contact GE Appliances toll-free at 877-261-1509 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or online at geappliances.com/ge/recall/jp3030-cooktop-2023 to arrange for a free installation of a replacement burner knob assembly.
  6. Call the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772 for additional questions regarding this recall.
