Summary

Airstream, Inc. is recalling approximately 6,827 model year 2021-2023 travel trailers and touring coaches, specifically the Basecamp, Bambi, Atlas, and Interstate models. These vehicles are equipped with SDS2 2-Burner Drop-in Cooktops that have internal aluminum burner tubes prone to fracturing. This defect can result in a gas leak inside the vehicle, which poses a serious fire hazard. Authorized dealers will install a regulator support bracket on affected cooktops at no cost to the owner.

Risk

The internal aluminum burner tubes connecting to the gas valves can fracture, causing gas to escape. If this gas leak occurs near an ignition source, it significantly increases the risk of a vehicle fire.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your vehicle registration or purchase documents to see if you own a 2021-2023 Airstream Basecamp, Bambi, Atlas, or Interstate vehicle.
  2. Verify if your vehicle is equipped with an SDS2 2-Burner Drop-in Cooktop.
  3. Contact Airstream Customer Service at 877-596-6111 (Extension 7491 for Travel Trailers or Extension 7401 for Touring Coaches) to discuss the recall and locate an authorized dealer.
  4. Schedule an appointment with an authorized dealer to have a regulator support bracket installed free of charge.
  5. For additional questions, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153).
